What is Pokemon Champions

Pokemon Champions is the first entry fully focused on competitive battling, developed by The Pokemon Company and Game Freak and announced for 2026. Unlike the mainline games, there is no story, exploration, or adventure: the game centers on ranked level-50 battles, bring-6-pick-4 selection, and a deep strategic meta similar to the official VGC format.

The game introduces the Omni Ring system, a mechanic that lets you trigger special effects mid-battle, and the Stat Points (SP) system that replaces traditional EVs with a distribution that is more approachable for new players while keeping depth for veterans.

Your First Match: What to Expect

Once matched, you see the Team Preview: a screen showing both players' six Pokemon. You have 60-90 seconds to:

Pick 4 of your 6 to bring (bring 4)
Decide your 2 leads (the two that start on the field)
Study the opponent's 6 and anticipate their plan

Doubles is the standard format: two Pokemon per side on the field. Opening plays (Turn 1) are critical — a bad lead loses the match before it starts. Tools like our team predictor analyse the opponent's 6 and recommend what to bring, what to leave behind, and the best leads.

The Stat Points (SP) System

Instead of traditional EVs (510 total, max 252 per stat), Champions uses Stat Points:

66 total SP to distribute across the six stats (HP, Atk, Def, SpA, SpD, Spe)
Max 32 SP per stat
Each SP gives a fixed boost (not level-scaling)

Typical competitive spreads are 32/32/2 (two stats maxed + 2 into a third): for example 32 Atk / 32 Spe / 2 HP for a fast physical attacker. This simplification makes team building more approachable without sacrificing depth — natures and abilities remain key factors.
